Vietnam Local Experiences: Named Artisan Partners & Social Enterprises
A curated directory of named local partners — social enterprises, artisan villages, named chefs, and community projects — that Dong DMC coordinates as bookable experience modules within luxury, incentive, and group programs across Vietnam.
Not an inspiration list. This page names the specific partners, explains what each experience delivers, and provides the operational detail agents need to sell confidently and book efficiently.
Why This Page Exists
Travel professionals increasingly need named local partners they can reference in proposals — not generic descriptions like "visit a local village" or "enjoy a cooking class." Clients and corporate buyers want to know who they are meeting, what the social impact is, and why this specific experience cannot be replicated from a brochure.
This page names each partner, explains their story and social mission, details the experience format, and provides the operational information agents need: group capacity, duration, lead time, location, and how to book through Dong DMC at net rates.
All experiences below are available as modular add-ons within any Dong DMC program — luxury, incentive, MICE, leisure, or pilgrimage. They can be combined with each other or with standard sightseeing to create itinerary depth that generic competitors cannot match.
Traditional Craft Village Partners
Vietnam has over 2,000 registered craft villages. Most are not suitable for tourism. The villages below are curated for guest experience quality, artisan engagement, accessibility, and group logistics.
Thanh Ha Pottery Village — Hoi An
What: 500-year-old pottery village on the Thu Bon River, 3 km west of Hoi An Ancient Town. Eight founding families (Nguyễn Viết, Nguyễn Văn, Bùi, Võ, Ngụy, Nguyễn Kim, Lê, Nguyễn Đức) still honoured at Nam Dieu Temple.
| Location | Thanh Ha Ward, 3 km west of Hoi An Ancient Town |
| Experiences | Hands-on pottery class at family workshop (shape, paint, fire), village walking tour, Thanh Ha Terracotta Park & Museum, Nam Dieu Temple visit |
| Access | Bicycle (15 min from Old Town), boat along Thu Bon River (15 min), taxi/van (10 min) |
| Group capacity | 10–50 pax per session (multiple workshops can run simultaneously) |
| Duration | Workshop: 30–60 min. Full village visit: 2–3 hours |
| Admission | 35,000 VND/adult, 15,000 VND/child |
| Hours | Daily 8:30–17:00 |
Sell with: "Shape clay on a foot-powered wheel in a 500-year-old pottery village — then cycle back to Hoi An through rice paddies." Excellent for families, incentive team building, and cultural immersion.
Ops note: Best arrival before 10:00 when artisans are most active. Groups of 6+ should book workshops in advance. Boat access along Thu Bon River is scenic but weather-dependent. Buy directly from family workshops, not entrance stalls. Pairs well with Tra Que Vegetable Village for a full craft + farm day.
Bat Trang Ceramics Village — Hanoi
What: Vietnam's most famous ceramics village, established in the 15th century on the Red River, 13 km southeast of Hanoi. Historically supplied ceramics to the imperial court and exported to Japan and Southeast Asia.
| Location | Bat Trang Commune, Gia Lam District, 13 km from Hanoi centre |
| Experiences | Pottery-making class (electric wheel or hand-shaping), kiln tour, ceramics market browsing, history walk through artisan lanes |
| Group capacity | 10–40 pax per workshop session |
| Duration | Workshop: 1–2 hours. Full visit with market: 3–4 hours |
| Transfer | 30–45 min from Hanoi Old Quarter (traffic-dependent) |
Sell with: "Make ceramics in a 600-year-old village that once supplied the imperial court — 30 minutes from central Hanoi." Good half-day module for Hanoi programs.
Ops note: Traffic from Hanoi can be heavy in morning rush. Depart before 08:00 or after 09:30. Finished pieces need kiln firing — arrange shipping or collect next day. The new Bat Trang Ceramics Museum opened in recent years and adds a polished complement to the village visit.
Van Phuc Silk Village — Hanoi
What: Traditional silk-weaving village with a 1,000+ year history, located 10 km southwest of Hanoi. One of the oldest continuously operating craft villages in Vietnam.
| Location | Van Phuc Ward, Ha Dong District, Hanoi |
| Experiences | Silk-weaving demonstration on traditional wooden looms, fabric market browsing (scarves, ao dai fabric, table runners), village history walk |
| Group capacity | 10–30 pax |
| Duration | 1.5–2 hours |
| Transfer | 25–35 min from Hanoi Old Quarter |
Sell with: "Watch silk being woven on century-old wooden looms in a village that has produced fabric for Vietnamese royalty for over 1,000 years." Pairs with Bat Trang for a full-day Hanoi craft village circuit.
Ops note: Silk purchases are a highlight — agents can advise clients to bring cash (VND) for better prices. The village is more browsing/demonstration than hands-on workshop. Combine with Bat Trang or Zó Project for a complete Hanoi artisan day.
Tra Que Vegetable Village — Hoi An
What: Organic herb and vegetable farming village 3 km northeast of Hoi An Ancient Town. Families have cultivated mint, basil, lettuce, and Vietnamese herbs here for 300+ years using seaweed-based natural fertiliser from the De Vong River.
| Location | Tra Que, Cam Ha Commune, 3 km northeast of Hoi An |
| Experiences | Farm work (hoeing, watering, harvesting), cooking class using farm-fresh ingredients, foot bath with medicinal herbs, bicycle ride through village |
| Group capacity | 10–60 pax |
| Duration | Half day (3–4 hours including cooking + meal) |
| Access | Bicycle from Hoi An (15 min), van/taxi (10 min) |
Sell with: "Harvest herbs at sunrise, then cook with them 30 minutes later — in a 300-year-old farming village that supplies Hoi An's restaurants." Combines farm + cook + eat in one module.
Ops note: Morning sessions (07:00–11:00) are best — cooler weather and active farming. Wear clothes suitable for garden work. Pairs perfectly with Thanh Ha Pottery Village for a full Hoi An countryside day. Cycling access is scenic and recommended for groups under 20 pax.

Ops note: The tea house observes silence — brief groups in advance. Tableware is handcrafted in Imperial Hue style by the artisans and available for purchase. Workshop bookings for 10+ pax require advance coordination through Dong DMC.
Zó Project — Hanoi
What: Social enterprise preserving traditional Vietnamese Dó paper — an ancient papermaking technique dating to the 13th century using bark of the Dó tree (Rhamnoneuron balansae). Founded by Tran Hong Nhung. CSIP Social Enterprise of the Year 2015.
Sell with: "Make a notebook from 700-year-old papermaking technique that was nearly lost — in a museum space next to West Lake." Strong for luxury FIT, creative incentive modules, family programs.
Ops note: Workshops run daily. Village trips to Bac Ninh are bi-weekly — confirm schedule. The gift shop sells Dó paper products (notebooks, lamps, earrings) that make excellent group gifts or conference welcome packages.
Vietrice Essence / Chef Thiet — Hoi An
What: Private cooking experience led by Chef Thiet, a local chef specialising in Central Vietnamese home-style cuisine with farm-sourced ingredients. Not a cooking school — a personal, intimate culinary session in a home kitchen setting.
Sell with: "Cook with a named local chef in his home kitchen using ingredients he sourced at the morning market — not a tourist cooking school, a personal invitation." Premium positioning for luxury FIT and honeymoon programs.
Ops note: Small capacity means this is FIT/luxury only — not suitable for large groups. Dietary accommodations available with advance notice. Pairs naturally with afternoon Hoi An Ancient Town walking tour.
Red Dzao Restaurant — Sapa
What: Community restaurant operated by Red Dzao ethnic minority women in Sapa, serving traditional highland cuisine prepared using indigenous cooking methods and locally foraged ingredients.

Ops note: Sapa access via overnight train from Hanoi or 5.5-hour drive. Best paired with 2-night Sapa itinerary including trekking and homestay. Seasonal menu — dishes vary based on available ingredients.
